How do I customize parent page links?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,

I am trying to make a subpage in one of my parent pages. The subpage lists as “published” and is properly designated to the parent page. However, when view my blog it doesn’t show up in the appropriate section (or at all). The only way I can access the page is by viewing it directly from the edit screen. What am I missing? I assumed that by designating it to that section it would show up in on the main page –am I incorrect in my assessment of its function?

Also, if I may piggyback: is there a way to embed a pre-scripted java widget directly into my page or as one of the existing widget functions? I had no problem with this on Blogger but can’t seem to get it.

I hope this makes sense, please forgive my novice question.

P.S. wordpress is rocking my world!

You can’t use javascript on WP.com blogs, sorry.

What’s the url of your wordpress.com blog, please? The blog linked to your name is a commercial one.

In adddition to not being able to use javascript, flash and iframes are also disallowed, all for security reasons.

That is my blog, in progress. I don’t know how it could be a commercial blog…? It’s for info regarding my business, but not used to sell anything.

oh, I get it! I must have it linked to my store somehow, I’ll see about changing this. Apologies for the mix up –thanks for any assistance you can give.

Actually I was curious which theme you’re using. I’m not certain all display the hierarchy. This might be of some help:

Meantime, can you give a specific example where it’s not working as you’d like? I clicked on a page I thought might have a child but, of course, I was wrong.

BTW, you can link your shiny new blog to your username by clicking on Your Profile on the upper right of this screen.

I’m using Blix. The ‘FAQ’ is where there should potentially be a ‘child’. I’ll take a look at the page you supplied and see about changing my theme. Nice blog, by the way –thanks for all of your help.

I see nothing there either. Did you give the child page a title? Themes handle this differently; MistyLook, for example, includes a line to the effect of “This page has a sub-page,” and then it shows the link to the child. One idea might be to use the pages widget, as mentioned below:

Thanks for the kind words. A few growing pains tonight, but that’s to be expected. Happy blogging.
