How do I customize the theme?
-
I want my blog to look like the “We Really Like This Cherry Tree” example for the Twenty-Ten theme. How do we get the horizontal line, the shading behind the post?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Wait a minute please. I think you are referring to a sticky post > http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/post-visibility/#sticky-posts

I do not yet have the custom design upgrade. I thought I could preview it before I bought it to see what it could do. Nothing there seemed to address how to get horizontal lines or shading behind posts. I tried adding html code to get a horizontal line and got a faint line that I could only get above the text and not above the header.

I believe The Cheery Tree post is a sticky post that the theme automatically provides the colored background for. I think the horizontal line likewise comes from designating a post as sticky.
I don’t have the inclination to use my test blog to test this for you as it’s late and I’m tried. However, you can easily prove or disprove whether or not it is a sticky post yourself.
Otherwise on that theme the background color here > Appearance > Background only applies to the edges around the blog. It does not change the background behind post and page text. To change that requires an annually renewable custom design upgrade and CSS editing.

That’s helpful, thanks. I think I get the sticky post idea now. Seems to only be an option once public, and we’ve been experimenting in private, so probably why we haven’t seen it yet. Thanks again.
