How do I delete a topic or category?

My blog has a number of categories into which the various posts are grouped. It seems I have accidentally created two of them by menas of keystroke errors (they nearly duplicate the names of other categories) and I cannot find any ready means of deleting them. As a result, they show up in drop down lists when I’m writing a post and in the ‘cloud’ at the top right corner of my Home/Archives page, which I find just a little … embarrassing. Please advise how I can eliminate them without deleting the ones I wish to keep? Thank you in advance!

(You’d get there from your wp-ddmin page, looking in Posts on the left, then clicking on Categories)
I hope you can convince that holdout dentist to approve your site,

Thank you, WRG/Jason! Your reply was right on the money!
As for the dentist(s), the phrase came with the theme; if you know how I can change THAT, I would be grateful as I wish to switch the numbers around just to see if anybody else notices…

Changing that is also within your wp-admin area. It’s worth spending some time here just poking around. Most anything that you change can easily be reversed.
Specifically, go to your admin area:
https://jaypochapin.wordpress.com/wp-adminOnce there, look to the left-side menu. Click Appearance, then Customize.
The option for Site Title, Tagline and Logo will be the second option down, or close enough.

Dude, you totally ROCK!
I’ve altered the tagline, switched out the fonts, and I may even start looking around for a new background to use behind the header!
I think the past few years I’ve been overly timid about the admin area (scared I might do something that couldn’t be undone or would accidentally totally trash the site…)
