How do I delete an old site I can’t log in to
-
Dear community,
I created a blog many years ago for my daughter. Now she would like to have the content deleted, but I am not able to log in. I believe the email I created the site with has been deleted.
Can anyone help please?Many thanks,
AnjaThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi Anja! I understand how important it is to help your daughter clean up her digital footprint, especially with an older site. Because WordPress.com is strictly committed to site security, the staff cannot manually delete a site for you without the owner being logged in. Your first step should be to try and remember any other email addresses you might have used and use the ‘Lost Password’ tool to see if any of them receive a reset link.If the email address has definitely been deleted or you cannot access it, you will need to use the WordPress.com Account Recovery process. This involves providing as much information as possible to prove you are the original owner, such as the original email address, the date the site was created, or any specific details only the creator would know. If you are unable to prove ownership through that process, and if the site contains your daughter’s personal images or sensitive information from when she was a minor, you can submit a formal Privacy Takedown Request to the WordPress.com safety team. They can review the content and, if it meets their privacy criteria, they may be able to remove the specific pages or the entire site even if you can’t log in.

Thanks so much for your kind response, James!
I tried to the WordPress Recovery process, but I was unable to even submit the form as the information they require for the process can only be retrieved from the email account that was used to create the WordPress site (unless we had made a payment to WordPress and could use our payment information, which we hadn’t).
I have been searching for a place to submit a formal Privacy Takedown Request to the WordPress.com safety team, but can’t seem to find this option. Is it possible you can help me with a direct link or contact information? Or is it possible that you will have to be a paying WordPress user in order to use it, because it requires their support?
Many thanks,
Anja

Hi Anja! I completely understand. It is a common ‘catch-22’ when the very email you need for recovery is the one that no longer exists, and since it was a free site, there are no billing records to use as backup proof. The good news is that you do not need to be a paying user to report a privacy concern. WordPress.com has a dedicated ‘Report a Site’ tool specifically for these situations. While they generally do not delete sites on behalf of third parties, they have a policy for ‘Private Information’ that can sometimes result in the site being hidden from the public or search engines if it contains sensitive data (like full names, photos, or contact info of a minor) that was posted without current consent. You can submit your request through the WordPress.com Report Form. Once there, you should select the option that most closely matches ‘Private Information’ or ‘Harassment/Privacy.’ In your description, be very clear that the site was created for a minor who is now an adult and wishes for the personal content to be removed, and mention that the original registration email is no longer active. You can also email the legal and safety team directly at (email visible only to moderators and staff) with the details of the site and the specific privacy concerns. They will review it against their safety guidelines and, while they can’t always delete an account, they may be able to set the site to ‘Private’ so it effectively disappears from the web.
