How do I delete categories?

I cannot find a delete button in the category menu. I did find out how I can add categories via the ‘write a new post’ menu, and assign posts to a category. I have not yet posted something in a category, but i have created quite a few. How can I delete unwanted categories?

Hey there!
You can delete categories by navigating to your dashboard then to posts, and selecting categories. Once there, you can hover over any category name to see more options pop-up below the category. One of the options will be delete. That should be all you need to do.

You must be logged in under the exact same username account that registered a blog to access it.

1. To edit or delete a category assigned to a post (whether it’s a draft or has already been published), go to Dashboard → Posts → All Posts in your dashboard, hover over the title and click the Edit link. To delete the post click the Trash link.

2. To edit/delete categories in your dashboard go to Dashboard → Posts → Categories

Ah thanks, i have another question. this might be really stupid, but when I login and make changes to my site i have a different menu and dashboard than u (time thief) have in the link you sent me. i have a blue dashboard which has less options then you showed me…

Hi @jettsetrecipes, you’re used to the new dashboard — the one that’s more consistent with our mobile and desktop apps. Also the one that auto-saves drafts and has gallery previews and a number of other features.
Right now categories can only be deleted from the older wp-admin dashboard, so that’s why those links look different. We’ll add that feature to the new interface soon, but those links Timethief sent will work, too. Let us know if you need more help.
