how do I delete my account
-
Last week I was forced to create an account in order to comment on WUWT, a WordPress blog. I can’t comment on WordPress without logging in, which takes me to something called the Dashboard. I cannot comment on any WordPress site with out going through this nonsense which makes the site run poorly and hangup so I can’t even just read it after logging in. If nothing can be done I will have to avoid any WordPress sponsored blog.

Hi there. You should actually also be able to comment on WordPress.com blogs using your Facebook, Twitter or Google+ accounts as well. When you click on a comment box, just look for the icons for those social media accounts below the comment box to use them for commenting instead. Also note that some blogs might only require you to insert an email address and some blogs might not require any personal information at all, but this is entirely dependant on the blog owner as each blogger can decide their own settings for their blogs.
If you created a blog that you don’t intend to use, you can either set it to private or delete it entirely: http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/privacy-settings/
http://en.support.wordpress.com/delete-site/You cannot delete your wordpress.com username account. This is for security reasons so others cannot claim your username and impersonate you. http://en.support.wordpress.com/deleting-accounts/ But you can remove all personal information you added and effectively deactivate your account so no one will be able to access it. See timethief’s instructions in this thread on how to do that: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/delete-account-276?replies=2

Thanks for the reply. I do not have Facebook, Twitter or Google+ accounts, I live where there is no cell phone service. I did not create a blog. I only created the account as I was forced to in order to comment on a blog. Now I have to login to WP in order to comment. What a pain! I only have one email account and I am not discarding it just to inactivate my WP account.

If you really want to get rid of the account you can easily create a throwaway address with a free webmail provider like yahoo or gmail. Change your WordPress.com address to that one (freeing up your regular email again), create a secure password as timethief describes, and walk away. But I’m afraid that’s the closest you’ll come to deleting your account.

You’re welcome :)
Keep in mind that after changing the email address it might take a while for the old one to become freed up. More here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/email-address/
