How do I delete my blog?

Hello there. So I started a blog but I’ve changed my mind. I don’t want it to exist any more and i don’t want people to be able to find it. Does anyone know how to get rid of it? Thanks!

Once you delete a blog the name is gone forever and can never be used even by you.
Much better to set it to “Private” than you can go back and use it in the future if you change your mind – people delete blogs all the time then change their mind on the name and then it is too late.

I always suggest that you simply set the blog to private and that way no one can see it and just hang onto it just in case sometime in the future you decide to use it. The reason I suggest this is that once you delete a blog here, you can never get that same URL back again. It is permanently and forever deleted.
If you want to delete the blog anyway, go to tools > delete site and please, make sure and READ all the warning on that page and understand them. We get probably two or three people each week posting here in the forums saying the had deleted their blog and now changed their mind and want it back. Once deleted there is NO getting it back.

@whatnowmatters, with such a good blog URL/name, I think that is a good idea setting it to private.
@auxclass, well, it’s that spirit of Aloha. We are more than willing to share.
We had flash flood watches here and were expecting over 12 inches in 36 hours, but here at my place I only got 1.5 inches. Some part of the Island got more as did some of the other islands.

I have deleted my blog but would like to use the original blog name (‘xxxx’.wordpress.com) for a new blog. Can I register a ‘new’ blog with the original blog name?

No.
There are MULTIPLE warnings about this during the deletion process. Blog names and URLs are never re-used.

@raincoaster : Is there a way to automatically redirect my deleted wordpress blog URL to my new (non WordPress) blog. Google and other search engines first display my deleted WordPress url instead of my current blog.

No, there isn’t. If you hadn’t deleted it, you could have purchased an upgrade that would do this. With a deleted blog, there is nothing to attach the upgrade to. You’ll have to wait till the new blog out-googles the old one, which can be 6 months or more.
