  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi

I have a wordpress blog as : colonialcuisine.wordpress.com (primary domain as in wordpress domain) associated with wordpress domain at : colonialcuisine.com . I have purchased BlueHost hosting with primary domain as : colonialcuisine.com and installed wordpress using SimpleScript with url : http://www.colonialcuisine.com. When I click on the URL, it always directs me to wordpress blog instead of opening as new WordPress.Org site. Where am I wrong? How do I delink the wordpress primary domain : colonialcuisine.wordpress.com from colonialcuisine.com or have the URL directed to new WordPress.Org site. Kindly advise
    Blog url: http://colonialcuisine.wordpress.com/

Thanks @ timethief. Another question : Once delinked, do I loose my domain name at wordpress.com . Thanks

  • Hi colonialcuisine,

When updating the name servers of a domain, it can take up to 72 hours for the DNS changes to take effect. I just viewed your domain and it loads your self–hosted WordPress.org blog at BlueHost perfectly.

If you’re still seeing your WordPress.com blog when visiting your domain, can you try clearing your browser cache and flush your DNS cache?

Once delinked, do I loose my domain name at wordpress.com

No. You’ll need to keep it active, though, by renewing the domain each year through your WordPress.com dashboard in Store -> My Upgrades.

To make things easier, you can enable auto renew, and make sure to keep the email address linked to your WordPress.com account up–to–date in the Settings tab of the WordPress.com home page (so we can contact you in case of hiccups with your domain renewal).
