how do I detach images from the attachment page?

    I asked this question before and thought the issue had been resolved, but it hasn’t, so apologies for asking again.

    I don’t want the images in this post to link to an attachment page, so I changed the setting but it hasn’t made any difference in the way that they images are displayed. Can anyone help? TIA

    Did you hit UPDATE after you made the changes? You have to change the image settings AND update the post.

    raincoaster, I wish it had been that simple.

    My “file url” change reverts back to the “link url” option almost immediately, in spite of “save changes” on the image page.

    I had not updated on the edit post page before, so I tried updating there this time. The images are still attached, but a second click displays them on the plain white page that I’m looking for.

    This is complicated to explain so my frustrated conclusion is that I had better upload images correctly in the first place, or fugeddaboudit.

    WP.com made some changes to image display recently, and this might be a side effect of that.

    @buyathread: Procedure (in the visual post editor) should be: click image, click mountain icon, click “Link to Image”, click Update (image), click Update (post).

    If that doesn’t work, you can always change the code (in the html editor). Example:
    <a rel="attachment wp-att-3434" href="http://buyathread.wordpress.com/2009/11/01/2009-weave-of-the-week-42-haitian-sequined-banners-drapo/drum-by-maxon/"><img class="size-full wp-image-3434" title="Drum-by-Maxon" src="http://buyathread.files.wordpress.com/2009/11/drum-by-maxon.jpg?w=381&h=472" alt="Traditional drum by Maxon, photo courtesy of Michelle Karshan" width="381" height="472" /></a>
    Change this
    <a rel="attachment wp-att-3434" href
    to this
    <a href
    then copy the image URL from the src part of the code and paste it in the href part of the code, i.e. turn this
    href="http://buyathread.wordpress.com/2009/11/01/2009-weave-of-the-week-42-haitian-sequined-banners-drapo/drum-by-maxon/">
    to this
    href="http://buyathread.files.wordpress.com/2009/11/drum-by-maxon.jpg">

    Hi, panaghiotisadam, thank you for weighing in on this. It will be a couple of days before I can try your suggestions, but I sure do hope that the first one works : )

    Brilliant, panaghiotisadam, your first suggestion solved my annoying image attachment problem very simply! Many thanks.
