How do I display the author of a post?

The theme I’m using doesn’t display the author, just the date. Is this something I can change or do I have to use a different theme?

I’ve tried navigating my Settings in search of a solution but the only menu options are Sharing and Polls. Is this an admin issue?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You can use the author’s name as a Category, or you can switch themes. I’m afraid those are the best options. Some people write a byline manually, either at the start of the post or at the bottom.

Problem solved. It won’t display the author unless multiple authors have at least one published post each. Just needed to post from another author.

    Thanks for the input raincoaster

    Your are right. :)

    Hi there,
Whether or not a byline appears is theme dependent. Some themes do not provide bylines at all. Themes that do provide bylines require the person to be an actual official author of the blog. Regardless of the theme, and provided the theme is designed to display a byline, bylines will only display now if there are at least two authors who are official users of the blog and both have at least one published post in the blog.

For a single author workaround for a byline display see here http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2012/01/03/wordpress-com-changes-bylines-for-authors/

For a list of themes that do or do not display author bylines and/or author profiles see > http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2009/08/15/author-displayed-or-not/ The wpbtips post lists themes created up to December 2011. There is a newer post that lists themes created from January 2012 through July 2014: http://danielgreene.com/2014/07/20/blog-2014-free-wordpress-themes-that-show-author-bylines/

Aside from switching themes there are some ways you can approach giving credit to multiple authors.

    (1) Create a category for Authors and subcategories for each author by their name. Then readers can click the name and locate all posts authored by any given author.

    (2) Use the Authors widget http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/authors-widget/

    (2) Have each author type their byline: eg. by John Doe at the top of their post.
