How do I do this sort of domain transfer?

Earlier this year I registered to get a “free” website through Microsoft’s Office Live. After finding that I was actually going to be charged for the free site I cancelled the site. By this time I already had my chosen domain name registered, free of charge, by Microsoft. When I do a whois on it I find that it is indeed registered to me. How can I use this name, for whom I don’t even know who the registrar is( not a computer guy here), here at WordPress.com given that I don’t even understand where it’s being transferred from?

When you do a whois on the domain, it will say what the registrar is. It also says who the contact and technical contacts are. Use those numbers to find out how you can do this by contacting them. If it is just you as the names, you will have to phone the registrar themselves saying that you are the owner and get access. Once you have control, you can proceed moving the name servers over to wordpress.com

There really is nothing anyone here can do. You can always use another registrar and “renew” the domain for another year to the one you want. That also might work.
