How do I drag and drop images from OneNote?
-
I have been using Evernote for the rough drafts of my posts, and I was able to drag and drop images directly from a note in Evernote to the “add new post” text box in WordPress. But I am now in the midst of shifting my drafts over to OneNote 2013, and I find that drag and drop of images won’t work from that program. I of course know how to save images and then import the files into the media library, but dragging and dropping is much easier and more intuitive.
Is there any way of doing this from OneNote?
Thanks.

Hi Bill,
I just downloaded OneNote to test this out and I concur that drag-and-drop doesn’t work out from OneNote to the WordPress post editor.
I also tried dragging an image out of OneNote into a GMail message and that did not work either. In fact, I couldn’t drag-and-drop an image out of OneNote at all. :(
Have you been successful dragging and dropping images in a OneNote post into any other application? It’s possible I need to test this out another way.
Please let me know!
Best,

Alex, thanks for the suggestion. I’ve just tried dragging and dropping an image from OneNote to several other programs and had only very limited success. I was able to move an image out to OpenOffice, but then from there I couldn’t get it into WordPress.
I suppose one awkward solution would be this: whenever I find an image for the blog, I would pop it into both OneNote and (temporarily) Evernote and drag and drop from Evernote. But that would be time-consuming. I’ll be interested to hear if anyone else has an answer to this dilemma.

Hi Bill,
I continued experimenting with OneNote and similarly had limited success. It seems that OneNote handles images in a way that makes it part of the note, and less an individual file. Like this decreases file size (for easier load times and syncing) but comes with these setbacks when trying to move the image out again. I can’t even drag-and-drop an image onto my desktop from OneNote.
From a technical standpoint, I think this behavior is what OneNote intends.
I think the solution for your circumstances is to find the simplest workflow to get an image into your WordPress media library at the same time you would normally add an image to a blog draft in OneNote.
On what sort of devices are you working when you add images to your OneNote drafts?

Alex, I did the experiments on my desktop computer running Windows 7, but the same thing happens on my Surface Pro 3 (Windows 8). The solution you suggest sounds reasonable. Thanks for your advice.
If in the future I find any other answer to the problem, I’ll let you know. I can’t believe I’m the only person using OneNote with WordPress.

Hi Bill,
The majority of WordPress.com users work directly in WordPress, either on a mobile app or in a browser. Since you can save drafts in our system, it has the affect of a cloud back up. However, I can definitely see why you’d like to continue using Evernote, OneNote, or the like if you want to work on (and save) blog posts in the same system you save other information.
Other popular options for working in WordPress are these:

It’s possible one of those options might work easier with OneNote than a web interface does.
If you do find a good solution, please let me know so I can have it included in our support documentation. :)
Best,
-Alex G.
