How do I drive traffic to my blog?

Any tips would be welcome – apart from the ones that WordPress recommend.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You don’t drive it, you invite it :)
The best way to get traffic that leads to meaningful engagement (i.e. comments and shares) is to 1) leave meaningful comments on other blogs (meaningful being more substance than “nice post” or “I’ve followed you. I hope you’ll now follow me.” Yes, I’ve had comments like that.) and 2) write good enough content that the people who do show up want to stay and chat about it, come back, and tell their friends about it.
The other thing is your content must be original and unique. Search engines favour content that’s unique and the more people are organically linking to you (as opposed to paid backlinks), the more likely search engines are to show your site in search results.
This is really the only long-term sustainable and effective strategy.
Being active on social media also helps, of course, but there are only so many hours in a day and if you have to pick, rather go with content and building community with existing and potential readers.

‘Drive – a bit of a strong word! Thank you for this info. I guess what I was hoping for is that one could write, sit back and magically everyone would arrive at my blog (dream on). The problem is I scarcely get time to write – and reading stuff on a computer monitor presents a problem to me, as I do my illustration digitally and have hectic eyestrain most of the time :(

If you figure that one out, let me know and we’ll rule the internet :-D
I’m afraid there’s no quick fix for this. You can always pay for traffic, but doesn’t mean the people who come to your site that way will actually read it.

Have you considered screen reading software? Then you could even listen to other sites while working on your illustrations. I’ve heard one called JAWS is the most popular, but there are very good free programs available as well.

Oh wow that sounds interesting – I had never heard of that – shall investigate. Thanks Kokkieh.

It’s very cool technology, yes. It’s what enables the visually impaired to still use computers. I’ve heard it can take a while to get used to, but it will help cut down on your eye strain.
You’re welcome and happy blogging :)

OK so my Comodo antivirus did not like ‘Thunder’ so I installed ‘NVDA’ and it is absolutely incredible! Just started playing around with it now.
Soon I shall be a happy blogger! -
