thanks Rosclarke

The blog linked to your nick is not a wp.COM blog. If your question has to do with that blog, you’re in the wrong forum.
-
And indeed, where to? We can’t even tell from your post if you have a wordpress.com blog or not, since your username links to a different site. Please change that link to your blog.
-
ok..i fixed that. just got this going. now links to http://www.allaboutheight.wordpress.com

The decent thing to do is LINK to the article, not copy-paste it. Anyway, if you do want to copy-paste, paste it in your editor via the “Paste as plain text” button, so that you won’t introduce any junk code that might mess your blog. And again give a link to the original source.

Okay, thanks. So you shouldn’t just copy and paste an article from elsewhere. That’s copyright theft and it’s illegal. It is acceptable to post an extract with a link back to the original site, especially if you offer your own comment on the article.

Use Press This bookmarklet. Use it, abuse it and report bugs, that’s what I’ve been doing.
PS: don’t take ‘abuse it’ seriously, but people should use the feature if it is available and it should be improved.

allaboutheight,
as panaghiotisadam and rosclarke said.

and if you want to make an excerpt, use the “quote marks” in the visual editor to be clear that you are citing a quotation.Proper links and proper quotes may take readers away from your blog for a little while, but they also give you a cloak of respectability. You’ve done research and are interested in giving your readers good information.

I always use the ‘open link in a new tab’ option. That way, even if readers do spend sometime at another site, they always come back to your blog at some point.
-
rosclarke,
exactly.
It seems the option in wp.com is to open in a new window rather than in a new tab. Am I missing something? -
