How do I edit a site from squarespace from within WordPress?
-
The existing website needs to be able to be a lot more dynamic. The squarespace editor is not allowing much freedom.
Am I able to manage the client’s web updates via WordPress and then ensure this is not charged to me? -
Hi,
Just to clarify, you are hoping to use the WordPress.com editor to edit a Squarespace site, correct?
If that is the case, I’m afraid that isn’t possible. The systems are not compatible.

I have exported the URL from squarespace to wordpress. This has been ‘domain mapped’. My question is, after I have made the site updates, am I able to just export the site and then cancel the service with wordpeess so its part of squearepace once more?

I suppose in theory you could do this, but it might not work as you intend. First, ONLY the site content can be exported from WordPress.com, so the content of your posts, pages, and comments. The theme/design of the site cannot be exported.
Second, the WordPress.com editor uses specific markup (HMTL code) to create the blocks used to control content, and that markup will not be recognised by the Squarespace editor when you import content back there. So while most formatting should stay intact, specific layouts you create using blocks in the WordPress.com editor won’t necessarily remain intact once the content is imported to Squarespace. Which means you’ll just be back where you started at that point.
So my advice is if you have to keep the site on Squarespace, work on it there using the tools they provide. If you prefer to use the tools we provide on WordPress.com, then it makes more sense to just host the site with us instead.

If you’re not planning to keep the site here, there’s no reason to map the domain here, or to buy a plan with us. A domain is not the same thing as the site, but is just a label that points to the site. So you can keep that pointed to Squarespace if that’s where the site will remain, and just use the free example.wordpress.com URL we provide you for the WordPress.com site.
