Hi there,
If already logged into your site, you can navigate to:
My Sites > WP Admin > Posts > CategoriesFrom there, you should be able to manage your Categories.
You can also reach the same ‘classic’ admin panel by logging in directly to your site via:
http://perspectivesophiepascal.wordpress.com/wp-adminHope this helps.

Thanks, WP Admin was all the way at the bottom and I did not see it. So I corrected the typo but when I went to save it with the Update button, I got this message on a blank screen: “You attempted to edit an item that doesn’t exist. Perhaps it was deleted?”
It might be noteworthy to know that I just changed my theme today after having used Greyzed since 2010.
What can/should I do now?
-
Hmmm, that’s interesting.
Switching the theme will not affect the Categories.
Would you mind sharing both the original (incorrectly spelled) Category name, and the new (corrected) Category name?
And do happen to see it listed in the dropdown list within the Categories Widget on your site?
-
To answer your question, yes I do see the category in the dropdown menu.
But lo and behold, the change was made, despite the error message that I got when I clicked Update. (the type was Very Goodl; I removed the “l”)
Must be a glitch in the WP interface?
-
I just got the same error on a newly created and purposely misspelled category that I tried to update via Edit on the WP Admin Categories page.
Strangely, editing the category by using the Quick Edit on the WP Admin Categories page did not bring up the error.
Tagged for Staff attention.

Oh, good!
Since it did end up working the way you did it, then yes – let’s call it a WordPress or browser glitch ;)
Hard to know exactly, sometimes.

@sophiepascal – thanks for bringing it up and @quitevisiblestudio apologies for jumping in here.

Hi folks, I just saw reports of such a bug this morning. We’ve got some people checking i it out. I’ll update you here when we have more info. Cheers!
-
No worries @justjennifer – and glad you did. :)
Always good to know when someone else is getting the same error, which indeed, turned out to be something worth a second look, as @supernovia pointed out.
-
Yeah, this one is being a bit of a bear, but know it’s on our radar.
Curiously, does “quick edit” work for you? Or how are you going about this? I can’t seem to duplicate it.
-
Quick Edit seems to work ok for me.
I do get the error message when editing a Category individually – clicking on it from the Category list.
But it doesn’t happen consistently. And the changes do seem to take effect despite the error message.

Hi @supernovia, any update here?
I’m still getting the error message “You attempted to edit an item that doesn’t exist. Perhaps it was deleted?” when I try to edit a category (not quick edit) in the WP Admin dashboard>Posts>Categories. As described, the category does actually change in spite of the error message.
-
Hi @justjennifer, no updates on this, sorry.
We do know though that the category names are indeed changing in spite of the error, and the error can be avoided by using quick edit.
