How do I edit my image gallery

  • Unknown's avatar

The appearance of my image gallery has changed not allowing me to edit my images, add captions, etc. The edit/delete icon is missing. This is on my post, Tempting Fate in Houston, Part 1. I have noticed the same change on the individual images uploaded on my posts as well. The icon has diminished in size and appearance, and is hard to click on. Please explain and help…

Hello there! I’d like to walk through the steps you’re taking to edit your image gallery and see if we can find a comfortable solution for you.

    1. Open your latest post in the post editor by clicking this link:
      https://makingmebold.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=4880&action=edit
    2. Make sure the Visual tab is selected, so you can see your content, without viewing the code, in your editing box.
    3. Scroll down the content until you get to your image gallery. Click on any of the images, or the white space between, in the area of your image gallery. Two sizable icons should appear: a pencil (to edit your gallery) and an X (to delete your gallery). Naturally, you’ll choose the pencil icon.
    4. When your Edit Gallery window opens, you can click on individual images and edit them to your heart’s content.
    5. Save any changes by clicking Update Gallery.

If you’re still not seeing the gallery well, will you attempt all the actions above in an alternate browser? I see you’re using Internet Explorer. You can try Google Chrome, or Firefox. Changing your browser, often impacts the way you’re able to view websites.

Looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks very much.

Thanks for the steps. That is exactly how I have always done my gallery edits in the past. It stopped working correctly on my image edits about a week or 2 ago. I just tried it on my Surface (Windows 8) and that worked, so I did my updates from there. So I guess that is a temporary workaround. Why would my IE stop working correctly on my main computer?

Hello there. Thanks for getting back to me, and for the additional details. I’m glad you have a temporary workaround.

To answer your question, sometimes when browser software changes, or platforms like WordPress.com, Facebook, Twitter, etc, change, there is interference with the way they communicate with each other. This can affect the functionality of the sites you’re viewing. That’s why I suggested attempting to view your Dashboard on a browser other than Internet Explorer. While IE works great for some folks, others find it does have the tendency to be the clunkiest when it comes to integrating changes. I highly recommend switching to the more responsive Chrome or Firefox.

Additionally, as Operating System upgrades become available (like Windows 8), older versions get the short end of the stick. They are no longer the main focus for developers when it comes to confirming compatibility with other software.

I hope this helps shed a bit of light on the subject. We will look into IE compatibility issues. In the meantime, let me know if you have success with other browsers. I don’t want you to have a break in momentum with your site.

    Thanks much!
