How do I edit my site's Update page where my blog posts show up?

How do I edit my site’s Updates page where my blog posts show up? I have posts that show on that page, however, there is a huge number of spaces between where one of the posts ends and another one begins. How do I delete the extra spaces between posts on that page? It appears I do not have access to the posts on that page to edit it. Thank you for your assistance.

I do not see the “spaces” you are talking about on the Updates Page. I see images taking a long time to load on the page, creating spaces that fill in with time with images. Some of these images have huge file sizes. I recommend you keep them at 100K or less to speed up loading.

Updates appears to be a category. You click on the post titles to edit the individual images.

Please not that WordPress.com does feature ads on random sites that may fill in those spaces you are talking about. This helps to offset the costs of the free sites.

    On this post: http://adorecatsbengals.com/2014/07/16/snow-bengal-cats/
your source code shows that you have somehow inserted 13 paragraphs each with a non-breaking space. That explains why you have a big hunk of empty looking post area.

From your dashboard, edit that post in the text editor. Delete all of those useless paragraphs. Then update the post. Below is what the code looks like:

    <p>& nbsp;</p>
    <p>& nbsp;</p>
    <p>& nbsp;</p>
    <p>& nbsp;</p>
    <p>& nbsp;</p>
    <p>& nbsp;</p>
    <p>& nbsp;</p>
    <p>& nbsp;</p>
    <p>& nbsp;</p>
    <p>& nbsp;</p>
    <p>& nbsp;</p>
    <p>& nbsp;</p>
    <p>& nbsp;</p>

Note: I have added a space between & nbsp; so that you can see the code—the forum here would render the code as a blank space. In the editor, that space would not be there.

I didn’t look at your entire “updates” blog page, but at least one other post has the same problem with extra paragraphs as illustrated above. Same fix: edit, delete the paragraphs, save…

Just to be clear, the page named “Updates” is your blogging page, not a category. You have set your home page as a static landing page and chose “Updates” to show your most recent posts.

You have categories and tags on each post such as

    Posted in Uncategorized

Tagged Bengal Kittens, Brown Spotted Bengal, Cats, Kittens, Marble Bengal, Seal Spotted Lynx Point Bengal, snow bengal

One suggestion I’d make to you is to change your default category from “Uncategorized” to something more description of your site. For example “Bengal Cats and Kittens” or something similar. Better SEO.

I didn’t look at the entire blog, but the pictures were a bit large, but I didn’t see any of them hugely awfully oversized and wasting your storage space in the media library. Your site was not especially slow loading either. But Lorelle is correct: you can compress your images to below 100KB or even 50KB without losing quality. Save media space and faster loading time for readers.
