How do I edit old posts to display as excerpts?

  I have just started using excerpts and have tried to edit previous posts to display on my home page as excerpts, but the whole post still seems to be displayed. Does it only work for new posts? Many thanks.

  Only certain themes support excerpts:

  However, you can accomplish similar functionality with the More tag:

  More Tag
