how do I edit the dns on wordpress and why do I need to?

  I bought a new domain name and entered it on my domains page at wordpress. I updated it to be my primary domain, but it didn’t work. Got a message that told me to go to register.com and change the dns info. I did that and it’s still not working. Now wordpress wants me to edit my dns. What now?
