I’m sorry but you cannot edit your template here and you cannot use javascript at all. It’s important to warn you that although some themes at wordpress.org and wordpress.com may appear to be the same they are not. At wordpress.com we are on a shared multiuser blogging platform and we are not allowed to alter our templates for security reasons. Likewise we cannot use javascript, iframes, some media embeds and styles, etc. http://faq.wordpress.com/2005/09/27/edit-my-templates/
This explains is greater detail why javascript is stripped.Basically if you do not wish to use one of the themes made available at wordpress.com through your admin section ->Dashboard -> Presentation -> Themes then you have two options. The choice you make may depend on the differences between css customizing a wordpress.com theme or moving to self hosting or a web host and altering a free wordpress.org template. Hopefully this information below will be useful.
(1) The please read me first before posting pink sticky at the head of the forum outlines the differences between wordpress.com blogs and wordpress.org blogs which are on different code bases http://wordpress.com/forums/topic.php?id=3700&replies=1
(2) css upgrade of wordpress.com blog
http://wordpress.com/blog/2006/08/04/custom-css/ The 15$ is just to alter the appearance of your theme and not the underlying php code. Purchasing the upgrade entitles you to edit CSS on one blog for one year. The CSS Editor does not let you edit any particular theme stylesheet; rather, it keeps the theme intact and lets you edit a brand new stylesheet. Because your custom CSS is loaded after the theme’s CSS, your style rules can override or add to the existing rules.
You can use CSS to improve on any existing theme; you can define your own classes for use in posts; you can select the Sandbox theme and build on one of the Minimalist layouts or opt for no stylesheet and do it all yourself. If you decide to upgrade and undertake css customization these threads may be helpful.

The first thing I looked for when I first got my blog here was the template. I kept on searching for the template but couldn’t find it. I emailed a friend and said “Where the hell did WordPress stick the template”. lol

Also note that if the tracking software that you are trying to add in is Urchin/ Google Analytics, it’s already in use by the staff and Google won’t allow it to be used twice on teh same site.
Surprised that TT didn’t mention Sitemeter. :)

Correction of oversight noted. [ *sob* You have no idea what a hellish week it was, she wailed, reaching for the kleenex box.]

Yes I do. I’ve had a bell nine hours a day in my hand.
WHAT?!?!? DID YOU SAY SOMETHING?!?!?! :)
312 emails.
18 open support tickets that got passed to me from my own volenteers. (I’m sitting here with a number of open browser screens rotating around in them while each one loads. Can you say multitasking?)
I don’t dare look in my Akismet folders or my server logs.
And I still need to move over http://daria.be over to http://cynix.us
New power brick is supposed to ship Tuesday. We’ll see.
Oh, and I’ve got a server overheating that I have to deal with in the morning. Same one as last time too.

You can add a counter to your blog and here is the information from the FAQs blog. I use sitemeter and if you choose it too be sure to get the html version and not the javascript version of the image

WHAT? STILL CAN’T HEAR YOU. ALL I CAN HEAR IS RINGING! WOULD SOMEONE PLEASE STOP RINGING THAT DARN BELL PLEASE?!?!
:)

Maybe wearing earmuffs, or inserting foam thingees or cotton balls will help. … 5 more weeks OMG – hang in there and keep smiling. :)
