How do I embed a YouTube video on my blog?
-
Hi,
I tried copying the URL while watching the video and pasting it in my post, but it didn’t work. I tried unlinking it, it didn’t work. The URL is purple, is that the correct color? It shows up as a link once posted but I want the video to be shown as in your description. What else can I try? Please help!
Thanks a million,
Alex

The URL to the video doesn’t need to be fashioned as a link – just copy the URL from your browser and paste it on a line by itself. Can you also make sure you are just copying and pasting a URL straight to a video, rather than your YouTube home page?

I did exactly that, but it doesn’t work. So instead I linked to my YouTube home page, but that’s not what I really want to do. Is there something else I could try? Because I get that it’s supposed to be the easiest thing in the world, still, it’s not working! And I don’t think I’m doing it wrong, it’s too easy – even for me!

Hi there,
Could you please try creating a new post, and pasting the following URL in your Visual post editor?
Be sure to paste the URL on its own line, and make sure it’s not linked.
If it’s still not working, could you please give us the link to the post?

Ha! It worked! I did exactly what I’ve already done a hundred times, only this time it worked! Well, actually, this time I wrote nothing, I just posted the video. But I should be able to write something to, right? I unlinked it, but I’ve done that before as well, so I’m still confused about what I did wrong… Do you always need to unlink? If not, how do you know when you’re supposed to?
Thank you so much for bearing with me!

You really shouldn’t need to, but I have found that some Apple applications, like Mail.app, preserve the link while pasting.
If you’re concerned, preview the post before publishing, and unlink if necessary.
