How do I embed maps (specifically using MapBox) in a wordpress.com page?
-
I want to embed a MapBox map into our WordPress account, but there is no shortcode or plugin for MapBox on a WordPress.com account. Also, I cannot embed the map directly onto a page; every time I paste the html directly in WordPress cuts it out when I try to preview or post it. How do I embed maps in WordPress.com that are not Google Maps?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The only map embeds you can use on a free hosted WordPress.com blog is Google maps. See the guide here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/google-maps/

I’m not using a free blog, we have a pay account. Why is it limited to Google? Since we’re not a free blog, what can I do to use MapBox?

Your blog is free hosted by WordPress.com just like mine, which are also on their domains are. Purchasing domain mapping does nothing except change the URL. if this is a deal breaker for you then you can move your content into a WordPress.ORG install.
You need to create an XML export file of your content. It will not include the theme as they cannot be exported. See 3 below.
WordPress.com and WordPress.org are completely separate.
http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/1. Hire a web host http://wordpress.org/hosting/
2. Set up a WordPress.org install and equip it with a theme and plugins.
http://wordpress.org/themes/
http://wordpress.org/plugins/3. Export your content out of your WordPress.com blog http://en.support.wordpress.com/export/ and import it into the install.
4. Purchase a site redirect upgrade from wordpress.com
http://en.support.wordpress.com/site-redirect/ or if you have domain mapping then update the nameservers http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/domain-management/5. Transfer subscribers and stats. See http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/moving-your-subscribers/
WordPress.org offers free software that you can install on a web server. You can upload and install themes and plugins, run ads, and edit the database. Learn about the differences here. http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

Ok. I was misinformed about the hosting. We had purchased the IP address and I confused that with the hosting.
Looks like google maps is the only API available to us then, thanks for the help.

hi again,
We pay only for the domain name and for the domain mapping but our blogs remain free hosted and you can confirm that here >
Domains – Important Notes Before Upgrading
You’re welcome and best wishes. -
Me again! I have been successful in getting the Google map embedded when it only shows a generic location, but I created a custom map using My Places/My Maps and WordPress is doing the whole “delete your embed code” thing again. Is there a way to embed a custom map through Google Maps? For example, can I embed this?

Thanks.

Is it possible to use the Google Maps API through WordPress.com or am I only limited to the simple embedding of maps on the page?
