How do I empty my RSS feed (cache)?

  • Unknown's avatar

After deleting posts (some of which published by mistake while still drafts) it is still possible to read them via Google Reader when somebody subscribe to my RSS feed!

    Why is this happening?

And how can I stop RSS feed from transmitting my deleted posts now and in the future – against my will?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

It will not continue to transmit posts you’ve deleted; it transmitted them at the moment you posted them. There is nothing you can do about it now.

Hello raincoaster and thanks for your swift reply,

I can understand that being the case with a subscription anterior to the deletion. The fact that the posts will remain on a given individual user’s Reader is irreversible.

But upon a new subscription, i.e. one posterior to the deletion, or if a user unsubscribes and then re-subscribes, why should the already deleted posts still be transmitted?! Is that really the case? I need a confirmation.

If so, is WordPress working on that as a recognized problem?

I have checked your feed and can find no entries at all in it. It’s my understanding that when a reader clears their browser they will not see the deleted posts in the feed. Also note that if the deleted posts have been indexed by search engines like Google it may take between 3 – 6 months for them to clear their cache and the indexed posts that were deleted no longer appear in search engine page results. The good news is that they are no longer appearing in the feed at this time.

The feed is empty but still. If you use Google Reader to subscribe to my RSS entries feed, you’ll catch all my deleted posts. Problem persists.

I’m sorry but we cannot help you with Google Reader.

The only thing I can think about is to publish a bunch of Posts – the new Post will at some time drive the old Posts way down on the reader – but then you have a bunch of blank Posts if you don’t have other content.
