How do I enter a "too long" DKIM code (TXT) given to me by my email provider?

  • Unknown's avatar

    I understand that there is a 192 character limit on TXT file input for WordPress. However, my email provider informed me that I would need to input a DKIM code in my WordPress site so that messages from my account wouldn’t be flagged as spam by a recipient. The code I was given was about 234 characters – too long. My email provider informed me that the only solution would be to acquire another domain, through something called dyn.com (?) and receive a DKIM code from there to input.

    I am really new to website technology, but this seems like an awfully convoluted way to do this. Could you tell me if this is indeed the only solution or if there might be something far less complicated? The idea of having to manage my website (WordPress), my email (Fastmail), and my domain (IX Webhosting) on top of an additional free domain (dyn.com) just seems like overkill. I’d appreciate any advice to solve this. Thanks in advance for your soonest reply.

    Hi there,

    We can have our developers add this for you. Can you please provide me the records that need to be added? I’m assuming this is for the domain: hrbassman.com?

    Thank you!

    Grace:

    That sounds great! I was worried that because the TXT code exceeded 192 characters, it would not be able to be added; I am glad that it will be. And yes, this is for hrbassman.com.

    The email provider is Fastmail, and my domain is from IX Webhosting. Following is the DKIM code generated from Fastmail that I received:

    v=DKIM1; k=rsa; p=MIGfMA0GCSqGSIb3DQEBAQUAA4GNADCBiQKBgQCzOma/u1muqIv39kfonr9D3E6exKQpev6JdnaLdhEJaj+duLqaaVvpU1+wJ5CP+vP8FErQgC+0Fmxn90cYUXeKpeKcpp8uVKgbnUbKATdR3mPHxyTU3RYQuDy4LiUQmGqiR/fhhtu/+nbVwPwppUVCRQTU8YMtZQhy+YuhViOr0QIDAQAB

    Please let me know if I can provide any additional information. Thanks in advance for your team’s response!

    Is that all they provided you?

    Usually there’s some type of domainkey?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Yes, they did (sorry not to include it before). This is the Domain key listed: mesmtp._domainkey.hrbassman.com

    Also, under the heading ADSP, they listed “unknown”.

    Again, if there is anything else you need, let me know and I’ll gladly provide it.
