How do I (find and) install a plug-in?

  I want my readers to receive an email response when I reply to their comments on my blog. I was told by a friend that I need to install a plug-in, but after doing some research I can’t figure out how to do it. I thought it would be similar to adding a widget, but have had no luck.

  We don’t allow plugins on WordPress.com for security reasons. Plugins are a feature only available for self-hosted blogs provided through WordPress.org.
