Hi there – This isn’t possible at WordPress.com, but can you please provide a few more details about what your ultimate goal is? I’m happy to help you figure out the best way to go about it!

Happiness Engineer Eurello, thanks for responding.
I have tried another tact, because you are not providing a way that I can actually migrate my blog to another URL.
So I took advantage of your “free” offer and changed my URL to brandguys.org Then I was told that I had to purchase “domain mapping” and do a number of other ornery steps.
This would cost me $18.
The last time I looked, $18 is not free.
If there is something I’m missing here, please let me know. If there is another way to do this for free, let me know. If I actually have to spend the money, despite what you promised, I’ll spend it. I just need to make this happen – and your support documents I’ve used are utterly impossible to follow unless one is a coder or engineer, which I’m not.
So take pity on me – and help me with this. I need to get my URL to read – brandguys.org – instead of what it is currently, which is brandguys.wordpress.com -

If you want to move your blog to another hosting platform altogether (now or in future), you can do that by exporting and importing your content. You don’t need access to the sql database. I can help you with that if that’s what you are trying to do, but it sounds like you just want to host your site on your own domain, which you can do quite simply without moving anything.

The last time I looked, $18 is not free. You have purchased the $99.00 premium upgrade, which includes a free domain. Domains on their own are $18.00 a year, and likely this price showed as you proceeded through the registration process, but your balance would have shown $0. And I see that you’ve now registered your domain and have not been charged for it separately, so you should be all set on this count: http://brandguys.org/
Excellent!

I’m sorry to hear that. We do try to make them simple and easy for anyone to follow. If you have any particular feedback on individual support documents, it’s always welcome!
