How do I force a hyperlink to open in the desktop version of a browser?
-
Hi
I want to force a hyperlink to open up in a desktop version of the browser.
This page in particular:
http://thearsenalhistory.com/arsenal-line-ups/When viewed on a smartphone, if the user clicks on the link to “Arsenal First Team Line-ups” it opens in the mobile version of the browser. This gives an error “Nothing Found”.
However, if I click on the link in a desktop version of the browser it is OK.
The HTML code is:
Click on the link below to access the
Arsenal first-team line-upsIs there something I can add to the code to force the link to open in the desktop version of the browser?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Let’s see what we can figure out.
First off, can you double check that the URL for the “first team line ups” page is correct: http://thearsenalhistory.com/stat/aftlu.htm
I’m not seeing any pages on your site with that URL. Looking at “Dashboard–>Pages” I see the “about” page and the “arsenal line ups” page. But nothing about the first team line ups.

Hi
http://thearsenalhistory.com/stat/aftlu.htm
Is an external page that I am trying to link to.
If you look at
http://thearsenalhistory.com/arsenal-line-ups/
You will see the link at the bottom of the page. -
The issue is that the URL http://thearsenalhistory.com/stat/aftlu.htm is not an external link. It is a page on the same domain that your WordPress.com site uses, thus, an internal link. And as far as I can see, it is a page that does not exist.
Unless I am just missing something?

The link only works if you include “www” at the start of the url:
http://www.thearsenalhistory.com/stat/aftlu.htm
Try clicking on the link at the bottom of the page
http://thearsenalhistory.com/arsenal-line-ups/ -
I get the same error page if I use http://www.thearsenalhistory.com/stat/aftlu.htm or just http://thearsenalhistory.com/stat/aftlu.htm
I am curious if your browser is looking at a cached version of http://www.thearsenalhistory.com/stat/aftlu.htm that existed at one point. What happens if you try to go to that page using a different browser? Was thearsenalhistory.com ever hosted elsewhere aside from WordPress.com?

Well spotted. Just cleared my browsing history, etc and now get page not found.
I need to sort out that problem first.
I have redirected my wordpress blog to the domain http://www.thearsenalhistory.com which means that I can’t use the host for anything else. Unless you know otherwise?

I think the easiest solution for you would be to create a new “page” and change the permalink to be http://thearsenalhistory.com/stat/aftlu This is essentially what you did when creating your “about” page.
