Please read > http://en.support.wordpress.com/affiliate-links/
WordPress.com allows bloggers to insert text affiliate links within post and page content to most third-party affiliate programs, provided they are not the primary content of the site in question.
Image affiliate links in posts and pages, banners, and any affiliate links in sidebar or footer widget areas, are still considered to be advertising and are not allowed on WordPress.com blogs.

Does that mean I can at least get a logo of Amazon that when clicked will take them to my book?
I put in a text widget, but it just has the link and it’s not even clickable. -
The widget code provided by Amazon.com will not work on WordPress.com.
You may link to a book or product on Amazon.com using your affiliate link, but you cannot post anything that could be construed as an advertisement for Amazon.com.
I would recommend either using a text link or making image of the item (like a book cover) a clickable link.
