How do I get a gallery as shown in the theme demo in the McKinley theme?
-
Gallery is different form that shown in theme preview
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Please read the setup description on the theme’s Showcase page http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/mckinley/ (tip: it won’t work with the Gallery slideshow. Only with the default thumbnail gallery or mosaic types.)

Thank you for your quick reply. I still cant figure out how to get galleries as shown in the demo. I am new to wordpress. It would be really helpful if you give step-by-step instructions. I am still tinkering around trying to work this out. Thank you

You’ve created a slideshow Gallery, just change that to one of the other Gallery types instead (thumbnail grid or one of the mosaics). Update your Gallery and Update your Post.
If you are not sure how to create a regular Gallery, read this Support doc http://en.support.wordpress.com/images/gallery/

I already did that. It didn’t work. I have tried all the gallery types and it still does not work. Does it mean there is something wrong with the theme? Or am is doing it worng?
-
I should further clarify that I am trying to get this gallery in my front page not the blog page. It does not work even when I try to fix it to the front page.
-
I see the McKinley style Gallery displayed in this post http://sajeevranjit.wordpress.com/2014/02/19/160/ If you don’t see it, try refreshing your page. (screenshot)
You can create a Gallery on a page as well.
I should probably ask, what browser are you using?
-
I see the gallery fine. But it does not show in the home page which is a static page. In the home page it does not work when i create a new gallery. Also nothing shows when i try to stick the post to the home page.
I use chrome and safari.
Thank you -
When your home page is a static front Page, you have to create a separate Gallery there.
Making the Post sticky will only tack it at the top of the Posts/Blog page.
Going to check something and will be back shortly.

OK-not quite as advertised.
In order to get the special McKinley Gallery to show up in Posts, in addition to inserting a Gallery in your Post, you have to use the Gallery Post Format when creating the Post.
Since Pages do not use Post Formats, you will not be able to display your photos using the full-width McKinley Gallery display in a Page.
Sorry for no better news.

Sadly that was just the conclusion I was about to draw after going through various forums. Anyways, thank you for taking the time to help me try and sort this out!

You’re welcome. Thanks for bringing this up. I’m leaving a note to Staff to ask to have the Showcase page updated as well.

That would be great. Will the updates be automatically implemented and will the users of this theme be notified?
-
Not the theme itself, but the description of how to implement the special display in the theme’s Showcase page here http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/mckinley/
-
Oh ok! Thank you! Will regularly check the page to see if the description has been updated.

Even if the theme’s description is updated, it currently won’t affect how you set up your site. It just hopefully makes it clearer to anyone reading the theme description that you need to insert a gallery AND use the post format to make it work. :)
Post formats only affect how posts are displayed on the front page of the site, which in most cases is the Posts/Blog page (and not a static page).
But, in the case of McKinley, It would be nice to be able to implement the special Gallery display also on Pages. You should suggest that in the Theme forum.
