How do I get a script to work?

  • Unknown's avatar

I am trying to insert a script from Mode Media onto my WordPress blog.

To do so, I create an arbitrary text widget, insert the code and then click save. When I click save, the code disappears as if it does not recognize it.

    Help! Thanks in advance!

I’m sorry, but and embed code using the ‘script’ tag will not work because we do not allow certain tags on WordPress.com for security reasons. This includes JavaScript, Flash, iframe, form, and input tags.

These restrictions are in place to prevent any disruptions in service due to potentially malicious code.

You can read more about this here:

Thank you for the concise, simply explanation.

From this point, is there a way for me to upgrade/change my wordpress account (without any major labor required or change to my site) that will allow me to use scripts?

None of our upgrades will allow the use of scripts. WordPress.com is a shared environment, and allowing them on any one site would be a risk to all of our users.

If running a script is important for your site, I’d recommend setting up a self-hosted site running the free software available from WordPress.org. We have information on how you can move your current WordPress.com site to a self-hosted site here:
