How do I get a summary listing of previous posts when you click archives or cats
-
Hello,
I told a friend I would help them figure out how to set up a blog on wordpress and created a test blog. If anyone could answer the following question I would be very appreciative!
I’m trying to set up how my archived posts look when a reader clicks either the “march 2011” archive link, or the “uncategorized” category in the side panel. Currently, it just shows the entire post! What I would like it to look like is the name of the post, followed by a short summary.
I selected the summary option in the tools>reading menu in the dashboard, but this didn’t seem to do anything.
Thank you in advance for your help,
Mike
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

What shows on tags, categories and archives pages varies from theme to theme. Each theme author decided what they would show when they created the theme. The following post by Panos will help you find a theme that shows excerpts.

Hi there,
Actually I was just confused. I wasn’t aware that how blog posts were shown in the archive was dependent upon the theme you were using. Thank you very much for responding though :)

Just to be sure you understand that setting up a test blog at wordpress.COM to test a theme you actually want to run on a wordpress.ORG install is not helpful. The themes of the same name here at wordpress.COM and also at wordpress.ORG are not the same. The two run on different software. Themes wordpress.ORG and are not coded to run on wordpress.COM software. In order to run on wordpress.COM software most themes we have here were “adapted” by Staff and some features were eliminated.

Yep, I completely understand that. My friend is not very good with setting things like this up, but would like a forum to discuss origami and such. I had never used the free site before (although I have used wordpress.org as a CMS on a hosted site before), which is why I created a test blog prior to my friend coming over so that I could lead him through the setup.
Thanks again :D

Okay that’s understood. :)

We cannot embed forums into wordpress.com blogs. We can only set them up elsewhere on the internet and link to them.
Here’s the link to the tutorial WordPress.com Staff have prepared so you can pass it along to your friend. http://learn.wordpress.com/
