How do I get allowed into my site?

  • Unknown's avatar

My WordPress password does not work. I have tried about ten times to get a reset link for one of my WordPress passwords sent to my email. So far, nothing has been sent to me. How do I get access to my domain, http://www.mikvelk.com, and build the Web site for it?

    ——-

FYI the mikvelk.com site was hacked on 12/24/14 and shutdown. I moved it from Network Solutions to BlueHost, where it has been fully rebuilt. No tainted code was transferred to the new site. Even so, Google might still have the site blacklisted. SiteLock is working on that, and mikvelk.com might be off Google’s blacklist today.

Now, the only problem left, in a too-long string of problems since 12/24/14, might be getting WordPress to let me access my site.

Since I cannot show a Blog URL for mikvelk.com yet, I show it for randalljarmon.com.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,
We provide support here only for blogs hosted by WordPress.COM and no others and that site is not among them.

WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are completely separate and have different logins, features, run different versions of some themes with the same names, and have separate support forums. Read the differences here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

If you don’t have a username account at WordPress.ORG click http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right hand corner of the page that opens, so you can post to the support forums there.

Thanks for your comments. They already simplify things.

I am reasonably sure “mikvelk.com” is a WordPress.com account. It was set up that way at BlueHost days ago. That might not be conclusive, but it seems the safest decision to make for now.

Also, it helps that “mikvelk.com” does not seem to be one of your WordPress.com accounts. I may know why that is, and will suggest what to do with that outcome shortly.

I think WordPress.com may not be able to see the account because it was transferred circa 12/26/14 from Network Solutions to BlueHost. The domain is not yet fully active on BlueHost since I still have to invoke the theme and, maybe, do one or two other final steps.

I think the account is paid up until maybe May, but that was done through Network Solutions. The transaction did not post to my WordPress.com account statement on billing, so I can’t be sure. Anyway, not a lot of time is left to run on the current subscription.

Given this much complexity — it will get worse momentarily — I doubt WordPress.com support can figure out what to do with my account anytime soon. They seem to have their hands full.

I therefore suggest my simply paying for another year of the account. I assume there is a way to do that, but, frankly, I still struggle to find anything on the WordPress.com site. I could be wrong.

If I can pay for a year, I suspect I might — consider this uninformed optimism — be able to manually change the site’s host from Network Solutions to BlueHost. One supposes this change might already have been made automatically since the DNS servers worldwide have been updated for about four days. However, maybe WordPress.com servers have not checked with them recently and still point toward Network Solutions.

So, since you seem to know what goes on inside WorldPress.com, I ask your opinion. Will renewing for a year resolve my situation with http://www.mikvelk.com? If so, where on the WordPress.com site do I go to renew?

    Thanks again.

Apparently the WordPress.org part remains insufficiently clear. Sorry. I’ll try to do better this time.

Specifically, I now offer a way you might be able to convince yourself we discuss a WordPress.com account.

I assume you have full insider access. If you do, I suggest going to the intake screen on WordPress.com and trying to set up a new account with http://www.mikvelk.com as the domain name.

WordPress.com then will tell you — assuming you see what I saw about an hour ago — that the name is already taken in WordPress.com. In other words, mikvelk.com is already a WordPress.com account.

If that works for you, please take a fresh look at my suggestion in the longish post send in the past hour.

Thanks for your patience. I would guess you are busy, buy I am actually trying to save you some work.

    Hi there,

The site at http://mikvelk.com/ is not hosted at WordPress.com, so WordPress.com support staff are unable to help you log in there. As a self-hosted WordPress site (using the WordPress software and hosted at BlueHost, as you mentioned) you’ll need to log in to that site using the login details that were set up when you installed WordPress there. (Those are separate from any login details for accounts here at WordPress.com. Accounts and billing at WordPress.com only pertain to hosting at WordPress.com, not WordPress sites hosted elsewhere.)

One option is to go to the site’s login page at http://mikvelk.com/wp-login.php and use the “Lost your password?” link to reset your password. You can also take a look at the WordPress.org guide to Resetting Your Password for more ways to regain access to your site.

If you need more help, please contact Bluehost for more assistance with your hosting account there or head to the WordPress.org forums, where you can get more help with self-hosted sites. Best of luck!
