How do I get back my gallery settings after importing site?

  • Unknown's avatar

I just imported one wordpress.com site, to a new wordpress.com site but lost all gallery settings. Do I have to go back and manually add the galleries of photos to each post?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

You shouldn’t need to! I’ll be happy to take a look. Which two sites are you talking about? Where did you move content from and where did you move it to?

    Thanks!

Sorry for not responding, I didn’t see that anyone had responded!

I moved dailybrycedigest.com and audreysalmanac.com to a new blog mcshannonmonitor.com. All are wordpress.com sites and I am using the same theme for all 3. I just posted about this again before seeing your reply. Hope that doesn’t complicate anything :)

    Thanks!

    Hiya,

No, it doesn’t complicate a thing! I just went ahead and removed that other post you made.

In regards to your two blogs, it looks like most of the data from the two made it in to your new “mcshannonmonitor.com,” but it may be that not all of it did. If necessary, do we have permission to remove all of the posts and media and do a new import? We’ll of course try to fix everything as it is now, but just in case I wanted to get your permission.

Let me know and I’ll get to work!

Also, it looks like every single one of your posts has an image associated with it. Would you say that’s a fair generalization? I’m trying to get a good standard by which to judge if all of the images have been attached correctly! :)

  • Unknown's avatar

Yes, pretty much all of my posts have at least one picture or video associated with it. (Just keeping the grandparents happy…)

Please feel free to re-import or complete whatever magic is necessary!

    Thanks!

Wow do I ever understand the keeping the grandparents happy! We’re several hundred miles away from each set ourselves and so we have to keep photoblogging as quickly as we can otherwise there are threats of riots.

In any case, I have indeed had to clean out your new blog, and I’m having one of my developers try a few tricks to and ease the data over from each of your older ones. It probably won’t be tonight as I’m about out of here, but as soon as I’m back in and I hear something, I will absolutely let you know!

  • Unknown's avatar

    Thank you so much!

I look forward to hearing good news in the near future!

    Hiya!

Good news indeed. The developer was not only able to get all of your data over from both of your two other blogs, he said it looked like you were referencing some images from other third party sites (blogger, I believe), and he pulled those over as well, so they’re all hosted now in this blog.

I did a quick scan through and it all looks good, but you’re going to be the expert. Can you take a look and let me know if it’s all looking right to you?

  • Unknown's avatar

I am beyond thrilled! You guys are the best!

Everything looks to be there. The grandparents thank you, too!

  • Unknown's avatar

    Ha! I’m so glad!

Hope you have a great week, and keep on taking those pictures. You’re great!

Oh, I have one more question. I created this new blog to have everything in one place from the other two older blogs. Now that everything has transferred, what should I do with the originals? If I leave them alone, but don’t renew the extra space, video, etc will they just remain as is (without the designated domain name? Or will all the data go away without maintaining the extra space and thus it makes the most sense to delete it?

  • Unknown's avatar

Honestly, it depends on how paranoid you are.

We maintain all sorts of redundant backups, but those are for if something fails on our end. If you think it’s possible that some rambunctious child could go through and start clicking buttons and could delete thousands of megs of photos, you might want to keep these other two sites as backups! You can always set them to private so that nobody is seeing the older versions. Here’s some information on how to do that:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/privacy-settings/#site-visibility-options

When the extra space that you’ve been paying for goes away, you shouldn’t really have access to it anymore, but like I said we do retain redundant backups.

    Thanks for the information!

By the way, I just found 2 posts (both on 10/31/2011) that are missing the photos. I can put them back in, but am going to check around those dates to make sure that’s the only one. I’ll let you know if I run into trouble.

  • Unknown's avatar

Oh! Let me know if there are more. You might also check to see if the images are uploaded and just aren’t attached. You can search through the Media Library.

If there are more and it’s all in a row, I might be able to do a partial import just surrounding those dates, but of course if you can just add in that media it will be awesome. :)

  • Unknown's avatar

I’ve been scanning and haven’t found any others. The images don’t appear to be in the Media Library for that date for either blog. I don’t have those images on this computer, so I can’t add them back in yet, but they are saved somewhere…

    Hiya,

I just went back to 10/31/2011 in your archives and found two posts:

    http://mcshannonmonitor.com/2011/10/31/happy-halloween-3/
    and
    http://mcshannonmonitor.com/2011/10/31/happy-halloween-4-2/

Are those the ones that you’re talking about?

They both have images attached to them currently. Did you find them since you wrote in? If so, great timing! :)

If not, I’m probably looking at the wrong posts!
