How do I get certain posts to display on the pages I have created?

I am using TwentyEleven for my blog/website.

I have worked out how to create menus using categories so that when a menu item is selected, posts in that category are displayed.

But I would prefer to be able to have my posts grouped under pages (& subpages) in my menu. Is this possible?

I want to use pages to group my posts so that I have more control over the feature images that show at the top.

I want to use a featured image on each page that is relevant to that topic (and on each sub-page that is relevant to that sub-topic), and then a different feature image shows as each post is viewed.

I also find the text “category archives” that shows when using categories as menu items is a bit clunky

    Thanks for any help

Hi. Please read this carefully, as it explains why you cannot put “posts on pages” and provides workarounds (which you appear to know already)

    “Posts on pages”

    Thanks, airodyssey.

I guess I’m going to be tinkering with sticky posts to see if I can get the feature photos at the top matching the content as I’d like.

The post you link to is good, and confirmed what I was beginning to come to grips with about posts & pages, categories & tags, how they work, and the limitations to how I could use them to achieve what I had envisioned.

It’s a pity that the discussion that followed the post seems to include some bitching between volunteers about the users who ask the same stupid questions. I can hear the frustration, and as a teacher, I understand. When you’ve answered the same questions and taught the same lessons over and over for 30 years, the answers seem so obvious, but every newbie is struggling to get their head around the basics, and needs patience and support. Again and again. That’s the nature of teaching and support, I guess.

Nothing has reminded me of this more effectively than experiencing that beginner feeling again as I try to learn wordpress, having almost no prior understanding of how blogs function. I feel ignorant, I try hard to find the answers, I experiment until I’m cross-eyed in order to try to answer my own questions & not bother the support staff unnecessarily. But when I finally ask, I get patient, clear answers.

    Thankyou
