How do I get details on how to monetize my blog?

    I would like to add ads to my blog to generate income, but am told I cannot do this with a free blog on WordPress.com. What steps precisely do I need to take to get to the point where I can had ads (not self-generated) on my blog? I’ve found some answers, and I already own a domain hosted to which I could transfer the blog if I really understood how, but I’m having trouble figuring out from the answers what I need to do. It’s an issue of terminology and language. How would I transfer my blog to a different domain, and would that then allow me to use WordPress plugins like Wordads?
