How do I get my customizations to stay?

I have tried everything that the help section says to do and I’ve even tried it in different browsers. I keep making customizations and they don’t save. I even tried different different themes and trying them. I make all sorts of lovely customizations and it says that they save, but when I go look at my blog, it’s the basic theme without anything I have done. I’ve been trying this the last couple days and I can’t seem to make it work. It’s very frustrating and I just want to have it work so I can actually blog.

Do you have the Custom Design upgrade? That’s just a free preview and won’t stick until you buy it.

Even on the free theme templates? I found the ways to change little things on the dashboard and those are saving at least.

I am having the same problem and all my changes are tiny ones involving fonts. Do I really have to upgrade? -
Note that you do not need to load the design tools unless you have the Custom Design upgrade, which it appears that you two have not purchased.

Appearance > Header
Appearance > Background
Appearance > Theme Options (applicable only to some themes)
Settings > Reading (set a static front page)
Site Title and Tagline > Settings > GeneralIf you are using the “Try Now” preview mode for the paid Custom Design upgrade, https://store.wordpress.com/premium-upgrades/custom-design/ the settings related to that upgrade will save but they won’t show up on your blog unless you have purchased the upgrade.

Then maybe you should highlight the fact that if you are new to wordpress, though free blogs are offered, customization comes at cost- along with exact instruction- easily linked from the first page.
Then people wouldn’t be sideswiped in not understanding what’s going on. Its like a step by step let down: First, is there something with what I’ve done? Hmmm, no lemme check… maybe the site is just really slow…. Why the heck is it not saving? Damn. Ok, I’ll try a different template… Shoot. Still not saving. Do I really have to look this up? It should be simple! Ok, here’s a forum. Ugh, now I gotta write this out. -and- -wait- Looks like timethief wrote me something. I have to buy a custom upgrade deal?! What the hay? I was trying this out because it was free but now I’m not really excited blogging because, dang, what a hassel it is.
