How do I get my domain to point to Tumblr?

    Warning I’m a total newbie when it comes to wordpress and webpages.
    I paid 18 bucks for the ayegaem domain and attempted to construct a decent website. I found editing the themes painfully complicated and did not like the experience. I decided to go with tumblr. All I want to do is be able to type http://www.ayegaem.com on any browser and have it link to my tumblr account. Tumblr is asking me to change my cname to domains.tumblr.com, when I attempt to do that in the wordpress domain manager I receive error message “This record cannot be added, as it conflicts with an existing record.” Can someone please help me solve this problem?

    Hi ayegaem,

    The instructions for updating your CNAME only apply if you are mapping a subdomain (such as tumblr.ayegaem.com). Since you want to map your primary domain, things work a bit differently. According to tumblr’s instructions, you actually want to update your A name record as detailed here: https://www.tumblr.com/docs/en/custom_domains.

    However, it looks like in the past WordPress has advised to first transfer your domain to a full-service registrar (such as GoDaddy) as this will make managing your domain down the line easier.     So I reviewed the links provided by sfarley 85 and found them informative but still does not help me with my problem. Since ayegaem.com is my only domain I’m advised by both tumblr and wordpress to change my A-Record to 66.6.44.4 which I did. Tumblr does not recognize that I did this already and continues to ask me to change the A-Record address. I find it interesting that when I type http://www.ayegaem.com it takes me to an empty tumblr page that states “not found”. This tells me that my domain is being pointed to tumblr but not being pointed to my exact tumblr account. How do I get ayegaem.com to point to ayegame.tumblr.com without having to wait 60 days and transfering to a much user friendly host with 24/7 support such as hotgator.com? Feedback would be much appreciated.

    You just had an extra A Record in there. I have deleted it and now ayegaem.com is pointing to tumblr.

    This tells me that my domain is being pointed to tumblr but not being pointed to my exact tumblr account. How do I get ayegaem.com to point to ayegame.tumblr.com

    You would need to talk to Tumblr support. With the correct A Record in there, we are sending traffic to Tumblr. If it is not going to the correct Tumblr location, that is something on their end.
