how do I get my own domain name email to work with wordpress?

  • Unknown's avatar

my (email visible only to moderators and staff) email still isn’t being forwarded to my gmail account. I’m sure I’ve not updated my DNS properly. this is the info my old host server gave me:

If you aim to continue using the mailbox from your WiserHosting package, then the MX recor should be set to: mail.lucyschaufer.com and an ‘A’ record for mail.lucyschaufer.com should point to 195.12.48.50. Please note that this IP address will change to 78.129.175.51 after the forthcoming migrations announced recently.

    All help welcome.
    Thanks.

    Hi there,

I’ve created the records required per the email which you sent over. I put in the first A record, however as your mail provider mentioned, they appear to be switching over server records some time soon, so you may need to log in at a later time to change the 195.12.48.50 over to 78.129.175.51. When that is necessary, just replace the former with the latter and it should work!

Keep in mind that any DNS-related change will take between 1 and 48 hours to propagate throughout the internet, so please be patient! If in a few hours this doesn’t work please reach out to your email provider and ask them to do a DNS lookup on your domain to see if it is showing for them as being setup correctly. If not, find out what needs to be changed and we’ll make that change for you! :)

Not a problem! And if you have any questions about what I’ve done, please don’t hesitate to ask. I’m more than happy to explain.

Thanks – the (email visible only to moderators and staff) test emails I’ve sent haven’t come back undeliverable. But they haven’t come to my gmail address.
    Have I missed a step?
    Is this a WiserHosting issue?
I’ve never done a Mail Fetch with gmail previously – perhaps this is what I need to do now as WordPress is different.

    Please advise.
    Thanks –

    Heya Lucy,

I’m not entirely sure how things are set up at WiserHosting, so I don’t know how your emails were getting from there over to your gmail. In general, if you have your own Google Apps account set up for lucyschaufer.com, I would recommend setting that up directly in your account here with us. It will look entirely different (there are about 5 of the MX records and no A records), and you have to get the correct ones from the Google Apps interface, but it is far more reliable then running your mail through another system.

I’m sorry I can’t be more help! You may want to reach out to the folks over at WiserHosting and see if your email account is even still active with them. If you’ve cancelled your hosting with them, your email may have been cancelled as well.
