How do I get my recipes to print without all the extras around my blog site?
-
HI, I am trying to allow people on my site to print my recipes without all the extra stuff so they are not having to print 15 pages…Is there a way to make it so that they can just print the recipe? Thank you!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

So do I just put that exact thing around the recipe part of my post in the text view versus visual? What if I have pictures embedded within the recipe, will it just print the words? Wish I knew as I was posting…have a lot of work to do to go back and fix them all!
Thank you!

You can add that shortcode around your recipe in the Visual editor and it will work, too. Everything you include between the beginning [recipe] shortcode and the ending [/recipe] shortcode (including pictures) will be printed.
As long as you include one or more of the servings, time, or difficulty attributes, a Print button will automatically appear. You can also use the shortcode [recipe print="true"] if you want the Print button without any of those attributes.
The recipe shortcode is fairly new — you can read the announcement about it here if you’re interested and follow that blog to get all the latest announcements about new features. Please let me know if you have any other questions. :)

Hi there, so I put in the short code on one of my recipes to try it out and when you click the print button it still prints everything on the post. I put it in the following:

All of my posts already have a print button, btw, but when you print it prints the whole entire post including the side columns, etc. I am trying to get it to just print the recipe.

Hi there,
I see that you added the shortcode [recipe] [/recipe] around the recipe in your post, but the Print link for the recipe itself isn’t showing up. (That’s different from the Print link for the whole post.) Sorry if I didn’t explain the Print option very well.
To have the recipe’s Print link automatically appear along with your recipe (like in our example recipe) you’ll need to include one of the servings, time, or difficulty attributes in your shortcode. If you don’t want to include those attributes, you can start your recipe shortcode with [recipe print="true"] (instead of just [recipe]) and the Print link will appear at the top of the recipe.
Please let me know if you have any other questions about that. :)

Ah…got it. Wow, I have a lot of work to do. Need to go back and fix all of my posts…ugh. So is there a way to print just words if I embed pics within the recipe section or no? I guess I can just leave the pics out of that section but I like a few prep pics…

Hi there,
No, there isn’t a way to have the print option just print words and not pictures. Everything inside the recipe shortcode will be printed.
You could always leave the pictures in the recipe section — I know I appreciate having pictures when I’m working through a new recipe. :) But if you don’t like that, you could include the pictures in your description of the recipe and then use the shortcode to put just the printable recipe at the bottom of the post. Here’s an example of a blog that does that:
