How do I get my social sharing stats back?

    I changed the date on one of my posts and now my social sharing stats are gone. How do I get them back?

    To calculate those social share counts, the post’s URL is entered into tools provided by Facebook/Twitter/etc, and they tell us how many shares have occurred. We then display that number.

    Since you changed the date on your post, and dates are part of your URLs, that changed the URL. Facebook/Twitter/etc don’t see it as the same post with a different date, they just see a different URL.

    If you change the date back, the URL will readjust and the old sharing stats will be back, but anything that’s happened while the date was changed would no longer be counted.
