How do I get my videos to start playing on an iphone and safari on a pc?

  • Unknown's avatar

For some reason, my videos stopped working on my safari (on a pc) and safari on my iphone 3G.

The last time I checked them was about 6 months ago, and at that time they worked.

  • They’re playing just fine for me in Safari and my iPhone 4S running iOS 5.1.1.

Which version of iOS is your iPhone running?

    Still doesn’t work on mine.

On my PC, I am using Safari 5.17 on Windows 7.
I get an error message about error in flash player.

On my iphone, it is a 3G, ios is 4.2

  • Ok, the iPhone may not work then, as HTML 5 video support wasn’t perfected until iOS 5.

As for windows, please try updating or re-installing Flash player. http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

I thought that videopress transcoded the file into all the various formats for the various playback devices like iphone.

Is there anything I can do to get it to play on iphones? My customers are trying to access my videos using their iphones, and many are complaining they can’t see my videos. But they can see youtube. What is going on?

  • We do transcode into various formats, and it works flawlessly under iOS 5 (available for the iPhone 3GS, 4, and 4S).

We can’t provide a support for a device that does not support Flash or native HTML 5 video embeds, like devices running iOS 4 or lower.

OK, so I need at least an iphone 3gs to run ios 5. And I need ios5 to run html 5. And I need html 5 to view my videos on Videopress I think I have that.

    Regarding safari on my pc.
    1. I downloaded the latest version of flashplayer, even though it did not say I needed it.
    2. I tried to download the latest version of safari, but could not figure out how to do that, since it keeps saying I have the latest version.

    3. But when I click on the video on the web page, I get this message inside a bordered area that says flashplayer 10 error:

VerifyError: Error #1053: Illegal override of play2 in org.osmf.net.httpstreaming.HTTPNetStream.

    Thank You for your help.

  • Safari for Windows appears to have been discontinued.

Apple did confirm that Windows won’t be receiving Safari 6, and now that Safari 6 is out for Mac users, all possible ways to download Safari for Windows (even the older versions) have disappeared as well.

Due to this, I’m unable to test myself, but I’d strongly recommend that you no longer use the discontinued browser, as it won’t be receiving security updates, bug fixes, and such.

Do you have the same trouble in other browsers, like Firefox or Chrome?

Chrome, internet explorer and firefox all work fine.

I was using safari to test with to make sure that those of my customers with macs would be able to see the videos. I guess I will just have to trust in that.

    On another topic:

Which is the best format to upload? I have been uploading in mp4. However, since you guys transcode it etc, is there a better format to upload.
Some are HD videos, some are SD videos.

  • It works just fine in Safari on my Mac, that was the first thing I tested. :)

If you can, the best format would be an MP4 video with H.264 video and AAC audio.
