How do I get my widgets to appear in my sidebar and not down at the bottom?

  I cannot get the widgets to appear in my sidebar and not at the bottom of the page, no matter what I do, which theme I try and it is driving me battier! Help! Please! Mwah!!!!!!! I tried for 3 hours on my own. :)
