You made this new editor sound terrific it’s not it’s a pain in the but putting it mildly. How do I get the old editor back and keep it not the new or Gutenberg one. I’m in the middle of a trying to write and edit a post and can’t do that because I don’t know how to revert back to the original way. Also, somehow it has a cover block up. How do I get rid of the cover black. I just want to write a normal post like I used to. Please help me.

I have the same problem. Worse, I hit the ‘dismiss’ button on Gutenberg and am now stuck with the really old editor and the plugins page says I need to upgrade to a business plan to get the Classic Editor back.

Re-opening WordPress doesn’t make any difference. Gutenberg is still gone and I have the horrible editor.

    Poor show WordPress…

Hi, you’ll find the answer here:

    WordPress Editor

Scroll down and you’ll see instructions on how to use the Classic Editor.

    Thanks!

Thanks . After writing this to get your wonderful help, I kept playing with it and somehow got to the classic editor. However, when I try to edit from dashboard it keeps asking do I want to keep editing in Gutenberg or the Classic Editor? Your current edits may be lost.
Once again thank you for your help.

  • Hi there,

You can completely disable the block editor by going to your WP-Admin main page. The notice saying Try Gutenberg also has a button to switch back to the classic editor. Then the classic editor will open automatically again when you start a new post or edit an existing one.

If you’ve dismissed that notice, click on Screen Options at the top of the page, and tick the box that says “New Editor”. That will bring back the notice block.

I suggest this advice about how to get back is given at the same time the user is invited to “try Gutenberg”.

Also that the user is given the option to suppress all further invitations to try it, and that this too is explained prominently.

This would help nip in the bud any negative feelings against WP that arise from this initiative.

I do not have the choice, below options, to “switch”, as it states in the support article.
Here’s what I have discovered: you can use classic editor if you go to posts>all posts, and hover over any post (I tried the “Gutenberg” one that was apparently added to my site) and chose “classic editor”

Create a sham classic-edited post, and use it. (That annoying “This post was previously edited in Gutenberg. You can continue in the Classic Editor, but you may lose data and formatting.” seems to be linked just to the original Gutenberg post, so hopefully you’ll never see it again.)

I sincerely hope that WP gets their act together about this and allows/ tells folks how to keep what works and ain’t broke. It could be, after 15 or so lovely years together, a deal-breaker for me.

First let me apologize for getting back to you so late but had no electricity, heat, power and etc… from 11:30 PM ET on Thursday to 5:30 AM ET this morning(Sunday). Thanks for your advice.
