How do I get people to advertise? How do I increase traffic to my page?

  I want to improve the over all look of my page. I don’t know what widgets and sidebars are. I want to upgrade my subscription but I don’t have $1000’s to do such. How do I increase traffic to my site? Thank you so much for your help. It’s early and I sound crazy.
