How do I get posts to link to a page where they are organized by category?

I’d like to do what Patterned Plate does in her blog. She’s got a Recipes page where all of her recipes are organized (see: http://thepatternedplate.wordpress.com/recipe-index/). Basically, she’s created an index page.

I would like to do the same thing. I want to have a Content page that would then have places for poetry, essays, sounds, and photos. I’ve created a content page and I have categories for essay, sounds, etc. but I can’t figure out how to get the categories to show up on the Content page…am I doing this all wrong? Am I not supposed to use categories? Do you have to create separate pages for everything?

I’m using the same theme as Patterned Place (Imbalance 2), and I have the CSS upgrade.

Thanks so much for any light you can shed!

This is a link to your tag “sounds”
    http://thetendirections.wordpress.com/tag/sounds/
You can add that to your Contents page. In the text editor, the code would look like this:
    <a href="http://thetendirections.wordpress.com/tag/sounds/" title="sounds">sounds</a>
Or you could use the visual editor icons to add links to your Contents page.
Each of your tags have similar links.

I’m sorry. That is not exactly what you want but I have to leave now. Perhaps another volunteer can help.

It looks to me as though she hand coded the links she has.

This would be an automatic way to develop lists of posts by topic:

    Display Posts Shortcode

Thanks! I’ll try this later and see if other suggestions come in, too.
