how do i get rid of a certain type of ad that is related to what i blog about?

I am aware that there is a $30 upgrade available to get rid of ads, but I don’t want to pay that. I am simply annoyed that you are advertising another wedding photographer on MY wedding photography blog. I was not logged in and I visited my blog and clicked on a wedding I had photographed and at the bottom was an ad, advertising some other wedding photographer…. that is not helping my busniess if my page is leading potential customers to OTHER photographers.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The answer is very simple. the only way to get rid of competitor advertising on your blog si to purchase the No-Ads upgrade. There is no picky choosy option here at all. The ads are contextually derived from keywords on each blog. That’s why I recommend everyone who is a business blogger here purchases that upgrade. http://en.support.wordpress.com/no-ads/

WordPress.com has been running advertising on our free hosted blogs since 2006. Many bloggers do not know this because despite the fact they ticked the box required to get a free blog, they did not read the ToS. Many also do not read features page, or advertising entry in the support documents after registering their username and blog(s). Also note that as the ads do not display to us when we are logged in, and as many use browsers with ad blockers when logged out, they may not realize they are there at all.

I knew there were ads all along, I had not however ever seen one like that linking another local wedding photographer on my wedding photography page. I don’t care about normal ads, but that is crap. Thanks for your help. Believe it or not I can’t afford to spend $30 as I’m about to have a baby. Oh well.

Setting your choice reproduce aside ;) you have to be kidding when you say you cannot afford $30. per year to promote your business.
    $30.00 dvided by 365 days = (US$ 30.00) / 365 = 0.0815257157 Canadian dollars

I have no more concern for those who choose not to purchase No-Ads upgrades than I do for those who do. Goodbye and best wishes with your blog!
