    It’s obviously within the custom design, but I’d like to lose the ~ sign from my main site title…

    FOR WHAT IT’S WORTH ~

    any help much appreciated.

    Add the following to your custom CSS at the end, and in the order I have it and it will do what you wish.

    #site-description {
    visibility: hidden;
    }
    #site-description:before {
    content: "everybody look what's going down..." !important;
    visibility: visible;
    }

    Note that you will have to edit the tagline/site description content within the CSS from this point forward since I’ve used some CSS voodoo to get rid of the ~ . If you change your tagline though, also change it at settings > general too, because that is where the search engines pick it up.
