How do I get rid of a WordPress ad in the middle of my home page?

  • Hi there!

As you can see from the following screenshot the ads have now been removed from the middle of your homepage:

If you are still seeing ads or a white box, please clear your browser’s cache and try again:

Thanks Fstat….when I check the box is now as you have on your screenshot. The ads are gone, but the white box is bigger than i would like…..it seems big for the two lines I have posted there. But I guess I will just have to put up with it. You are also removed from my admin. page…..thanks for your help!

  • You’re welcome!

To make the box smaller, you can remove the sharing buttons from it. Here are the instructions on how to do it:

    Add Social Share Buttons

Will that just remove the sharing buttons from the home page or from all the posts/blogs too?

Fstat – see question above. Also a friend told me for $60 annual fee you could get rid of the ads without having to sign up for a monthly plan? Is that correct, and if so how do you do that?

Fstat – if I sign up for the Personal $60 annual fee, will it change my custom domain name? If so, how do I know what domain names are already taken, can I find that out in advance?

  • Hi there,

This will only remove the sharing buttons on that specific page.

Also a friend told me for $60 annual fee you could get rid of the ads without having to sign up for a monthly plan? Is that correct, and if so how do you do that?

Exactly. By upgrading to the Personal plan ($60 per year), all advertising is removed. Plus, you can register a custom domain name and have access to email and live chat support. You can read more about the Personal plan here:

    Choose a WordPress.com Plan

if I sign up for the Personal $60 annual fee, will it change my custom domain name? If so, how do I know what domain names are already taken, can I find that out in advance?

You don’t have to change your current domain name if you don’t like. The custom domain is optional.
To check for a domain name availability, use this search tool:

Can I only get a custom domain name with the more expensive Premium plan or does it come with the Personal plan $60?. Also if I do change the domain name does all the web content already posted automatically transfer over, including my followers? Or do I have to do something manually?

PS. See above questions…..I am nervous about changing the domain name as so many people posting in the forums seem to have problems with it or with their content transferring? Do I have to import my data to the new domain name?

  • Hi there,

Can I only get a custom domain name with the more expensive Premium plan or does it come with the Personal plan $60?.

All WordPress.com plans (Personal, Premium, Business) come with one domain for free.

Also if I do change the domain name does all the web content already posted automatically transfer over, including my followers? Or do I have to do something manually?

All your contents will be unchanged. The only thing that’ll change will be your site’s address (URL).

I am nervous about changing the domain name as so many people posting in the forums seem to have problems with it or with their content transferring? Do I have to import my data to the new domain name?

Your site won’t be transferred elsewhere. Your site will remain hosted on WordPress.com and it’ll be accessible via both your current address (thehomeplaceweb.wordpress.com) and your custom domain.
