How do I get rid of Meta widget?

  I am trying to get rid of the Meta widget on my main page, but when I open the Widgets menu, the sidebar drop-down is empty, and the Meta box is still among the available widgets.

  You can remove your default widgets by creating a blank Text Widget and dragging it to your sidebar. (You can do this from the Appearance > Widgets page from your blog’s Dashboard.)
